Women, Having Trouble Finding a Nice Guy To Date? Brush Up On These 5 Subjects and Score Yourself a Cute Geek.

Geeky guys can make for some of the best long term relationships. Often times they're intelligent, thoughtful and sweet - but too shy to make a move. Here are 5 subjects to school yourself in and guarantee you have a way to break the ice with the next hot guy (in a Spider-Man t-shirt) you see. For each category I'll assign levels 1-3. A level one subject is probably all you need to learn about to be able to carry on a conversation, but a level 3 will score you massive brownie points and have the object of your affection well on the way to being smitten. Remember, you actually need to learn about the things you choose to study in-depth. Geeks love nothing more than dissecting the finer points of their passions. Try to find something you like as well and really spend some time getting to know it inside and out.

Video Games

Level One - Guitar Hero/Rock Band

Easy to pick up and play and fun for group activities. Practice by yourself and get good enough to play an instrument on medium/hard.

Level Two - Super Mario Brothers

There are many versions of this game, and almost everyone has played at least one or has access to it. Familiarize yourself with some of the originals and give yourself some old-school gamer cred.

Level Three - Portal/Portal 2

Part platformer, part puzzle, part nerdgasm - knowing Portal terminology will endear you to most gamers. Slip the phrase "the cake is a lie" into a situation where you don't feel like you've been properly rewarded, sit back and watch the adulation come at you in waves.

Science Fiction

Level One - Star Wars

Tips to get you started - only the original three are worth watching, Empire Strikes Back is the best, Jar Jar Binks is the anti-christ and Lucas needs to release the originals on DVD

Level Two - Star Trek

There are many different Star Trek shows. The Next Generation is probably the easiest for people who wouldn't normally be into sci-fi to enjoy. Watch some of the original series so you can participate in arguments about Captain Kirk vs Picard.

Level Three - Doctor Who

This one is tricky to get into since there have been about a zillion episodes since the series began in 1963. If you really get into it you can debate which Doctor you like the best.

Comic Books/Graphic Novels

Level One - Batman

As most people know at least the basics behind the story of Bruce Wayne, these are fairly easy to get into. Read the graphic novel The Killing Joke for a chilling take on the Joker.

Level Two - The X-Men

Also fairly commonly known because of the movies, but there are a lot of characters to get in-depth with. Learn some tidbits about some of the lesser known X-Men to throw into the mix.

Level Three - Neil Gaiman's Sandman

A beautiful series chock full of mythology and folklore, it's a fantasy lover's dream.

Anime

Level One - Princess Mononoke

A beautiful movie that actually has decent English dubs for people who don't like to read subtitles.

Level Two - Death Note

A bigger time investment than a movie, but a fairly short series by most anime standards. Popular for a reason, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting into this from the get go. Watch in the original Japanese with subtitles.

Level Three - Akira

Though it's one of the most famous animes of all time, watching it and actually understanding what the hell is going on doesn't happen often. Watch multiple times and look online to see what others' interpretations are.

Music

Level One - MC Chris

Catchy raps about games, D&D, Star Wars etc. Geeky subject matter, but fun to listen to for everyone.

Level Two - Weird Al Yankovic

The O.G. of nerdcore music, this guy has been making people laugh with his parodies since the 70s. Bonus points - watch the movie UHF.

Level Three - The Minibosses

Instrumental covers of video game songs. These guys put their spin on some of the most famous themes ever, and a lot of their songs are available for free on their website.

There you have it. 5 subjects to become familiar with so you can win the hearts of geeky guys everywhere. And who knows, you may actually find that you're a geeky girl yourself!

As a man, with a mind of my own, I'm not so sure this would work on someone like me.

You don't enjoy women sharing similar interests? Learning about a few things outside of your comfort zone is never a bad thing :)

@freecampingaussie - I'm sort of assuming that the girls already sort of have an interest in "geeky" stuff so it won't be horrible for them to learn more about some of this stuff. If they truly hate it, dating a guy who liked it wouldn't be advisable ;)

@recommend1 - exactly! It isn't a "trick" as much as showing people that you care enough about their interests to learn a few things.
